2006 Annual Final Frontiers Competition

Date: Montgomery County: November 11, 2006
Prince George's County: November 18, 2006
Location: MC: Wootton High School in Rockville, MD
PG: Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD
Details: Here's a listing of the events with the intended objective for each:
1. "Aero Car" -- construct a car that can travel the greatest distance using wind power.
Grades 5-9 supply wind for the car.
Grades 10-12 build the self-propelled car.
2. "Shuttle Arm" -- construct the lightest arm possible that will lift a 200 gram* mass vertically to a platform 30 cm above a table.
* Grades 5-7 will lift a 100 gram mass.
3. "Lunar Bridge" -- design and construct the lightest bridge capable of holding two bricks (4.6 kg).
4. "Newton's Nightmare" -- work with a team of three students to solve a series of space-related problems.
5. "Satellite Snatch" -- retrieve three objects from the middle of a rectangular table using a constructed device while competing against an opponent.
6. "Mystery Event" -- prepare a device for an unknown task with limited time and materials; all construction takes place on site with given materials.
