Here's a listing of the events with the intended objective
for each: |
| 1. |
"Aero Car" -- construct a car that can travel the
greatest distance using wind power.
Grades 5-9 supply wind for the car.
Grades 10-12 build the self-propelled car. |
| 2. |
"Shuttle Arm" -- construct the lightest arm possible
that will lift a 200 gram* mass vertically to a platform 30
cm above a table.
* Grades 5-7 will lift a 100 gram mass. |
| 3. |
"Lunar Bridge" -- design and construct the lightest
bridge capable of holding two bricks (4.6 kg). |
| 4. |
"Newton's Nightmare" -- work with a team of three
students to solve a series of space-related problems. |
| 5. |
"Satellite Snatch" -- retrieve three objects from
the middle of a rectangular table using a constructed device
while competing against an opponent. |
| 6. |
"Mystery Event" -- prepare a device for an unknown
task with limited time and materials; all construction takes
place on site with given materials. |
